Overview
Spylo PC Monitor is the award-winning and highly flexible security monitoring software used by parents, business organizations, and
for the tasks like testing of usability or studies of PC usage.
So what is the way you know what your staff (or family) are doing on your computer?
This software tells you exactly who is doing what on your computer and at what time.
This stealth-monitoring utility provides you the information about every runned application, every keystroke, stored password,
established internet connection and takes a screen shots of these events.
Program logs are extremely compact - screen shots are JPG compressed, monitoring eats very small amount of processor time and monitor is
invisible to user - it is not shown by Alt+Tab or in system tray.
Autostart of monitor
The events logging begins since the monitoring module is started.
After installation autostart is enabled by default. "Autostart" means that you
do not need to start the monitoring module manually - it is automatically loaded
at system startup. However you can switch this mode on or off. Choose from menu
"Monitor"->"Autostart...". If the monitor is autostarted you will see the message
"Spylo monitor is loaded at system startup, do you wish to disable it's autostart ? (You will need to start it manually each time
you need to monitor the system, if you will hit YES!) ". You can disable monitor autostart
by clicking "Yes" button. If the autostart mode is off you will see the message
"Spylo monitor is NOT set to be loaded at system startup ! Do you wish it to be autoloaded at system startup ?", you
can enable autostart mode by clicking "Yes" button.
Using the program
This program records 6 types of information: screen shots, keystrokes,
remote access connections, activity of applications windows, monitor starts +
user logins and cached passwords. You can switch between these recordings with
appropriate tabs.
Each record (excluding passwords) has it's time stamp, so you
can look up what keys user pressed when some window was active for example.
There are "Screen shot" buttons at each tab page, select appropriate record and
press this button - you will be switched to screen shots page displaying the closest
by the time screen shot of this event. You can notice some legend icons at connections and
applications activity pages:
"new" - new top level parent window or RAS connection was detected
"!" - window became activated (stays as foreground)
"x" - window or connection disappeared.
Purging and deleting logs
Depending on configuration properties tracked information logs can take
a large amount of disk space. It is recommended to purge logs to reduce it's size.
To purge logs open a "Starts/Logins" tab sheet, select a start before which you wish to
purge logs.
Click "Purge before login" button, the confirmation question box will be shown,
after answering all events recorded in logs having timestamp before the selected login will
be erased. In some cases if you need to delete all stored logs (for example if there are no
interesting information recorded) you can do it by clicking "Delete all logs" button on the
same tab sheet. Also this procedure is necessary if there are the errors shown during logs reading as
a result of tampering.
Password protection
It is highly recommended to set password for Spylo Commander. You prevent unauthorized access to logs and settings using the password.
To set password, start the Spylo Commander, choose from menu "Setup"->"Monitoring properties". Type your
password into edit box and click "!" button. Confirm the password by retyping it
in appeared screen and click OK. Now you have set the password. To remove password do not type anything and click "!" button, you will
be asked to confirm the removal of password and after that there will be no more password protection if you hit OK.
Main hints
1) To prevent manipulations with Spylo PC Monitor it's better to
remove shortcuts from your "Start menu" - write down in some secure place the
full folder pathname where Spylo installed, and run the Spylo Commander from
Windows Explorer or from "My Computer". 2) It's highly recommended to set a password
protection on Spylo Commander, it will prevent the unauthorized uninstalling and logs deletion.
3) Try to experiment with logging intervals, it's better to set not very little (or
your PC will continueosly write to hard disk - it is very suspicious) and not very high (or some events can be missed).

Monitoring properties
You can set monitoring properties by selecting from menu "Setup"->"Monitoring properties"
These are the main properties:
Screen shots take interval - this the time interval in milliseconds between two screen shots.
Applications activity snapshot interval - this is a pause between the end of analyzing procedure of new and disappeared windows and it's restart. 1000ms means
that Spylo will analyze windows once per second, 2000ms - once per two seconds, etc.
Connections check interval - same as above but for remote internet connections.
JPEG screen shot quality - this sets the quality of screen shoots, if the value is high, screen shoot pictures will be sharp, but will take more disk space and vice versa.
Take screen shots of - you can select what will be taken - just active window (less disk space needed, but less informative) or a whole desktop.
Password - sets the access password for Spylo Commander.
Entering registration information
To convert your Spylo PC Monitor trial to full working version you need to enter
registration information. You obtain it immediately after ordering. Enter the values into appropriate fields and hit "Process code" button.
Please notice - the registration name is case sensitive and space sensitive ! Don't panic if program does not
accept registration information. Be sure to check twice the code and the name you entered, often many users enter an Order ID
instead of regcode. If the code still is not accepted, please contact support@sontrexsoft.com.
